We are installing a fence line with cattle panels. We are looking at either the one man auger or the two man dually. Is there a centrifugal slip clutch on both of them to stop them if we hit a rock. We have heard horror stories about broken arms. What would you recommend. Thank you.

Answer
Kevin,
Both of these augers do have a centrifugal clutch and they actually have the same clutch. I’m not sure it would be considered a slip clutch though. However If a rock is hit, the shock spring on the auger bit is designed to take the initial hit which would bog the engine down which in turn would cause the clutch to disengage. I would consider the dually if it is a very rocky area so that the force would be distributed between two people rather than just one person.

What size auger would I need for installing 2 inch steel fence posts for a chain link fence. They will be installed with concrete.

Answer
Dave, Typically for a 2" metal fence post you would need a 6" auger bit. Check with local code for any conflictions to this, but I would say that this is standard.
