Q: Can this unit use detachable wheels? If yes, do you sell them and how much are they?
by Gerard Pizzo from New York on November 11, 2013

A: Gerard,

Mantis offers a detachable wheel kit for their tillers and the part number is 9222.

We unfortunately do not carry this part in our stock, but if you call them directly at 800-366-6268, you can have it ordered for you.
by Bob, Product Expert

Q: Todd,
Do you know of any mini tillers that have blades that are pointed and can replace the cultivating blades? I currently rent a push aerator that requires weight to make holes to apply grass seed in thin areas. Pushing is becoming harder and that's why I looking for a mini tiller that changes blades.
Thanks
John

by John from Maryland on September 23, 2011

A: John - any of the four MANTIS garden cultivators that we carry can be adapted to an aerator function using the aerator attachment, which is sold separately: Mantis Aerator Attachment

Q: I am looking for a smaller machine for my husband for weeding in the garden. He already has a big Husky for the prep work in the all and spring. I am interested in your opion on the matter. I see that the Mantis and Honda look like good contenders but am really not knowledgeable enough to even know the right questions to pick the correct machine. I live in an area where the soil in pretty clay like and heavy.
by Karla from Connecticut on June 13, 2011

A: Karla - if you are looking for something compact and lightweight that you are going to use primarily for weeding rather than tilling the soil, then either the Mantis #7225 or the Mantis #7262 would be excellent choices. Just depends on whether you prefer a 2-cycle engine (#7225) or a 4-cycle engine (#7262) like your big Husky. The patented serpentine tines on the Mantis tillers make these a great choice when working in hard soil or clay. I think you will be happier with the Mantis than with the Honda model if you are working in heavy, clay-like soils.

Love It!
I had a 2-cycle Mantis before. The 4 cycle does a better job and the Honda engine just purrs and is very easy to start. I am a passionate gardener who is 70 years old.

Like This Machine!
Really enjoy this little tiller as it works real well for my small garden spaces. Starts easily, runs strong, and gets after it pretty well. I've been going through some wet clay and it does get mucked up a bit, but the times are easily attachable which makes cleaning the mess real easy. Good tool and I have faith that it will last with the Honda engine.

Love These Little Tillers
We received the tiller exactly on the day they told us it would be delivered. It was easy to put together. We have owned several mini tillers in the past, and always come back to Mantis. Great product and very dependable.

All It's Cracked Up To Be
I bought a 2 cycle back in the early 80's and used it practically to death. I've always been impressed and amazed at how tough these little tillers are and how much work they'll do without complaint. I bought the 4 stroke to avoid the hassle of mixing gas and for the quieter operation.

I assembled the 4 stroke machine without any difficulties and used it on its maiden outing to till my existing garden, prepping it for winter and to sow some cereal rye on my 3'x30' raised (unframed) garden... more

Too Much Moss!!!
I was looking for a small tiller with attachments to dethatch and aerate my property. I have too much moss (there is a reason they call it the Evergreen State...it is moss). I went online and shopped around. Tillers Direct had the best price and the reviews were useful.

I finally broke down and bought the machine. I used it after it arrived. It was easy to put together. The machine is easy to handle. Looks durable. I went with the 4 cycle (didn't want to deal with mixing anything on... more

Mantis 9" 4-cycle Mini-tiller
I'm a 68 year old woman. My husband just died three months ago, I wanted to plant our garden he had a big tiller and it was hard for me to use. I did some searching and found this wonderful tiller, it was easy to put together and start. I have told friends about it. I can use it in all my flower gardens and in my vegetable garden.

3rd Tiller
LOVE my Mantis!!! I am a 64 year old farm girl.....with no muscle power anymore. I bought a 4 cycle Mantis....it starts SO EASY, I don't have to have muscle! I can start it myself, and of course it digs and churns up the soil like fine sand. I used the mantis in the swimming pool area last night....we are burying our above ground pool a foot or so....worked awesome, just need to move the dirt now.... THANKS

You Want What For Your Birthday?
My wife's always been a bit on the odd side when it comes to gifts. This year she'd read a review of the Mantis Tiller and had to have it. So I got her the Mantis and assumed that the second part of this deal was for me to till her many gardens. But to my surprise, after I assembled it, she's done all the work herself. The kicker is she loves it. She's tilling everything, out there all day into the evening. I can sit in front of the TV with a couple beers and watch baseball all night long... more

Dan Man
I used it for the first time and did the 500 square foot job in 4 hours. Bounces around a lot on hard packed soil with weeds. I needed to space the patch first to be able to handle the machine. I am 6' tall and weigh 185 and pretty fit for 72, but it needs a lot of muscle to control. The plot had just sun and rain for over two years.

Then it was still hard to pull it back through the initial tilling, and since there were a lot of tough, small old roots, it was necessary to stop at the end... more
