  1 Question
Q: Is the reverse gear on this FT900 tiller belt driven or chain driven?
by John Liptak from Illinois on February 08, 2013

A: John,

The transmission is chain driven. The chain is internal and isn't depicted on parts diagrams so it can be confusing.

Manual Chain Drive Transmission
•One gear forward and one reverse
•Improves maneuverability and control

The Husqvarna FT900 front tine garden tiller is a perfect choice for homeowners who want to prepare gardens and flower beds without the back-breaking labor needed to do this with a shovel or spade. If you are working in soil that has been tilled previously, or you want to start a new garden in an area with soft soil, this is the machine for you.

The weight and size of Husqvarna FT900 front tine garden tiller makes it extremely easy to handle, maneuver, transport and store. The Husqvarna... more

Mr.christoher M Austin
Just to add to my first review. I also took the tiller into the back yard to make a food plot for the wild animals here. It cut the soil perfectly, like I said before I live in Pennsylvania and its one big rock. The tiller at times jumped all over. Mind you I should have never done this. Rocks the size of the tops of garbage cans came up. Now the animals have a nice green plot started. I don't recommend anyone to do this but it worked for me. The tiller is a front tine for only light duty, but... more

Junk Tiller
I bought this tiller new last summer 2012. Had 10 hours on it and the transmission bearings went bad. Sent it out and it came back with bolts missing and a new transmission was installed. Just used it for two hours and the same problem happened again. Now it's off for another transmission install. This thing is junk. When the third transmission goes I get my money back. I wanted Sears to take this piece of junk back now, but they won't till it comes back three times for the same issue. They had... more

Husqvarna Ft900
I purchased this tiller for sole purpose of a small garden and planting my 35x200 food plot! Have used it for both for about a total of 9 hours and so far it has did very good on what I expect in a plane garden tiller!! If it does half of what my old 6 horse Bolens did for ten or more years I will b very well satisfied. I will post if it doesn't believe me! Yes for the money and use so far. Yes, I recommend it!!
Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Price, Reliable

Mr. Christopher M Austin
Just got my tiller 4/26/13 ordered it 4/20/13 tilled my garden that I haven't used for five years. Cut through it like no tomorrow. Also tilled a section of the yard that was never touched in more than 50 years, broke sod just fine. The reverse works like a charm. Oh yes, I live in Pike County Pennsylvania and the state is one big rock. I am very happy with my tiller.

Husqvarna Ft900
This is by far the worst piece of equipment I have ever owned. It only had maybe 1 hour on it and transmission started leaking oil. I brought it to a Husqvarna service center and they replaced the transmission. I used it about 15 minutes and transmission started leaking again. Brought it back to service center and they got with Husqvarna and they said it can leak because it has enough oil to last a lifetime, which is impossible. Husqvarna said the only way they would fix it or give me my... more

Ft900 Tiller Good Machine But
Bought this machine because it has the B/S engine which I thought was made in USA...Wrong..Its made in CHINA like all other entry level engines. I found this out after buying this machine. It is easy starting and runs good. The service I received from Tillers Direct was great, no complaints. Once I started using the machine several design flaws surfaced. No Throttle control on the handle, it's on the engine. Bad idea. So I spent $5.00 and bought a throttle cable and installed one. It's way... more

Husgvarna Tiller
I am a produce farmer, and sell in local farmer's markets in Houston, TX. Needed a heavy duty tiller for 3 acre truck farm. Have used it now for a month, and it has performed well. I particularly like the gas line turn-off switch so as not to build up as much 'gunk' in the lines or carburetor. I do notice that the belts squeal at times. All in all I am very satisfied with the tiller.

No Disappointments Here
Did a lot of research and window shopping before buying this tiller. Local equipment seller had it on sale for over $700 plus tax. I was a bit nervous about buying a tiller on-line due to shipping considerations should there be a problem. Decided for the price it was worth it and without a doubt it certainly was. Arrived in good time in good order. Some oil leakage on box so I took picture and noted it on receipt. Apparently some leakage from laying box on side, as no leaks in unit. Be sure... more

Me And My Large Garden
I love it and the price is half of what most retailers charge. One problem though, two of the bolts included were supposed to be 2 3/4 inches long and they were, all six, 1 1/2 inches. I had to go to a hardware store to get the correct length bolts. The machine runs like a champ and the reverse handle works miracles when getting around 90 degree corners.
