  4 Questions
Q: I've got some spots of dead St Augustine lawn that I need to did up and then plant more sod.
Is a tiller the best power tool to loosen dead grass so I can pick it up?

by Rich Horne from Florida on November 15, 2013

A: Rich,

A tiller would be best to tear up lawn so sod could be laid down. That St. Augustine grass is some pretty heavy duty stuff with a rather tight root system. You may want to upgrade to a gas, rear tine tiller to be able to handle your turf needs.

If you have any further questions, always feel free to contact me directly at 800-710-7499 Ext. 133.

I'm always happy to help!

Sincerely,

Q: Bob- can you take off the two outside tines to weed and loosen the soil betweeen rows?
by R. Bruce Miller from Pennsylvania on June 14, 2012

A: Bruce - you cannot adjust the tilling width on the Earthwise electric cultivator. You can take off the outside tines to narrow the tilling width for weeding on both the Greenworks electric tiller and the Troy-Bilt TB154E: electric cultivators This feature is also available on several of the gas cultivators we sell.

I bought this last August (2012). It is so much easier to use than the big Poulan I used to have. I get big loads of horse manure from a couple of my friends for my gardens and this little tiller really chops up everything. I've used it twice (April 2013) and don't know why I never thought about getting a little tiller. Once you get used to it, I don't get exhausted or sore as I used to get after using the big tillers. I give this 10 stars.

3 Generations And Still Growing
We have had so many weeds in our garden, we never thought about an electric tiller. Even our grand children can use this tiller. We are all excited about our weed free garden and the veggies to come. All 3 generations are happy with our tiller.
Pros: Easy To Use, Light Weight, Exceeded Expectations, I'd Buy It Again
Cons: Have Not Found One

Works Well For Us
I have only used it once but was pleased at what it did. Easy to put together. Looks lightweight but if you don't try to work in real hard clay or rocks it should handle cultivating or tilling ground which isn't too hard. We are using it to keep weeds from taking over in paths and between those crops which allow enough room. I tilled some ground which had been worked last year and it mixed the ground beautifully for 3-4 inches first pass and 6 inches second pass. Very quiet and so far no close... more

Good Un
I only had a small chance to use it so far. I liked the first trail as my dirt was worked last fall, I have not had it in new sod, but it did great so far. I did have a small 2 H.P. Troy Bilt and it lasted 4 seasons. I have had small troubles with adjusting valves & starting gas motors nearly all my life, think I will enjoy electric if it last 4 years I'll be back.

It's Mine
This tiller gets the job done!! It's not what u want if u have 'hardpack'. But if your soil is fairly 'soft', it'll mix it up really good for you. It does the job I needed it to do. Complaints. . . . seems a bit 'light'. . . . . heavier would make it more 'controllable'. Also once it gets into a 'dig it deeper' mode, it's hard to get it back 'on a forward' path. Some these complaints may be the lack of experience of the user!!

I like it and think it's definitely worth the $$ after... more

Perfect for me. The wheels are indispensable for balance, steadying, guiding, maintaining even depth, stopping to rest and the added front weight helps keep it from bouncing too much.

Yes, It Works
This thing is great. I gave away my gas 2 cycle cultivator when it needed a carburetor. I know the electric tiller will not ever have that problem.

No more pulling on the rope and hoping it starts. No more storing fuel in the shed. For a small garden this is the easy way.

Having it sent to your door is also the easy way to buy.

Great Value: No Regrets
This tiller is lightweight and plenty powerful. There was some ambiguity in assembly (flat out contradiction between pictures and the written text) but that was easily resolved in practice.

The adjustable height/handle assembly seems a trifle wobbly (ie: too much play between the arm, toggles, etc) But as yet it seems fine. Maybe totally stable, just seems not quite. Check back w me after a season or two worth of use.

Bad Choice
It wouldn't go straight & despite setting the lowest setting, it did not till the soil... just the surface.

If it weren't so difficult or expensive, I'd return it!
Cons: Difficult To Use

Great Product
I have used my tiller to prepare my garden and also to keep the areas between my plants weed free. It is very easy to use and performs well. I am older and I had no problems with assembly or use. My son put a hook in my garage so it can be stored off the floor and it is easy for me to get to. I hope it lasts as long as my garden.
Pros: Easy To Use, Quiet, Light Weight, Easy To Store
