  3 Questions
Q: What king of grease is in the gear box between the tines
by Lee from South Dakota on May 13, 2015

A: Lee,

Earthquake uses a zero weight moly grease in their transmissions. Corn head grease may also be used but moly is usually easier to find. Just make sure it's zero weight.

Q: what is the horsepower rating on the earthquate vector 98cc tiller?
by Jim Burt from Tennessee on February 11, 2013

A: Jim - there is no true conversion from cc's to HP, but a 98cc engine is roughly equal to 3 or 3.5HP.

Vector Tiller--easiest Tiller I've Ever Used
The Vector is a super light, easy to handle front tine tiller with enough power to break sod.

The low center of gravity gives the tiller superior in-row stability allowing you to get closer to your plants without losing control and accidentally damaging them.

The outer tine shields are removable, along with the outer tine-gangs which means that once you have the garden tilled in the spring, you can easily turn the 21 inch tiller into the most powerful mini-cultivator on the market.

This tiller will quit in heavy (but previously tilled) soil and when it hits a root. And then it will NOT start again for any amount of pulling! I walked away and waited for it to cool down and tried again...still will not start. That is why I have time to write this. Maybe if I wait until it is completely cool...say an hour, I'll try again. This is the second time it has done this to me and it will be the last! Back to the store it goes. Save yourself the effort of buying, hauling, assembling... more
Pros: Price, Light Weight

Manufacturer Response
Brand Rep
We are sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience with our tiller.

The problem that you are describing sounds at first glance to be related to some debris in the carburetor float bowl. Sometimes when there is a little fleck of debris that makes it's way into the fuel tank, and then into the carburetor bowl, it can stick in the needle, causing the carburetor to be stuck in a "Rich" condition.

Please contact our customer service group at 1-800-345-6007 Monday-Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Central time. We will be happy to help you with your problem, or to locate a service center to have the carburetor condition fixed.

Tiller Didn't Have The Horse Power
I don't have a large garden, 30' X 15' so I was looking for a compact tiller. The ground had been tilled the year before so it was not new ground. I made sure the tiller had oil and I added gas. It started very easy on the first pull. I let it run for a few minutes and got to tilling.
I found that once the tiller dug down, it would start to bog down and often times would die. So I pulled it back to start it and the same thing would happen. I managed to get one length down the garden, turned... more

Buyer Beware ...
The Earthquake company promotes this tiller as powerful enough to "break ground" but when you call about a warranted issue and you tell them your were breaking ground they will tell you the machine is not intended to break ground and that voids the warranty. So buyer beware.... product pretty good ... company dishonest!

Cons: Durability

So Far So Good
The depth drag stake is poorly designed. It has to be removed or raised so that after starting the tiller I can walk it from my storage shed to the garden.

Then it must be lowered and pinned at the desired depth at the garden. This is a problem if you are 75 years old and have arthritis.
My previous tiller had the stake attached with a bolt to the tiller where it would pivot forward at the bottom allowing me to set the depth and pull the bottom front of the stake up and secure with a... more
